Detachment from knowledge and decolonial emancipation

Kinti Orellana, professor of International Relations at the University of Azuay, participated on October 24 in the event organized by the publication Millennium: Journal of International Studies with his article "Alternative global entanglements," detachment from knowledge "and the limits of decolonial emancipation."

Orellana explained that his article was chosen to be exhibited within the panel on "Emancipatory Visions of Detachments and Webs in World Politics", in which he participated with exhibitors from the Middle East and the United Kingdom.

The teacher said that it was a very satisfactory experience for him, since in many of his classes he shares articles from this magazine due to the quality of the thinkers who publish in it.

The article analyzes the divisions that knowledge can generate:

"An inequality is generated in society, people believe they are superior because they have more knowledge and those who do not know are automatically inferior, such as those who have a professional title and those who do not," explained Orellana.

The teacher added that his contribution is aimed at us, as a mestizo society, abandoning that marked legacy of the colonial period, in which we assume that what comes from abroad is much better than what we have here and he hopes that his contribution, which is based on the contributions of ancestral wisdoms, can contribute in that direction

Orellana said that he still doesn't know for sure when the article will be published because it has to go through a peer process, but added that thanks to the feedback he got on Saturday, he is closer to publication.
