Design in the Anthropocene: Book Launch by Michael Maks Davis

On June 06, the University of Azuay presented the book "Design in the Anthropocene" by Michael Maks Davis, as part of the Master's in Architecture with a specialization in Sustainable Construction; an event in line with the Sustainable Development Goals.
The event was attended by authorities, teachers and administrative staff from our university community and the general public.
The book addresses urban and building design with a human-centered focus on sustainability. It integrates decades of experience in consulting, teaching, and research on renewable energy, water, and waste; it also simplifies the complexity of sustainable design by transforming multiple factors into a common language: space.
The welcoming remarks were delivered by Francisco Salgado, rector of the University of Azuay, who emphasized the importance of presenting this work at the institution, as it is consistent with the university's focus in recent years, especially on issues related to sustainability. He also highlighted the value of having international authors present, which represents a significant opportunity for the exchange of knowledge and experiences.
Pedro Samaniego, director of the Master's in Architecture program specializing in Sustainable Construction, addressed those present to thank the university authorities for supporting the launch of this publication. He noted that the author is using the book's content as a basis for developing his module within the master's program, which enriches the academic offering and provides a renewed focus on student training.
The presentation of the work was led by Jaire Cagigal, who highlighted the synergy generated around the book and the importance of being able to launch it to the public. He emphasized the effort to transform complex concepts into clear and didactic images, thus facilitating the understanding of the topics covered and promoting a more direct connection with the reader.
The official launch was carried out by the author, who thanked the university for providing the space to share his work. He also shared details about his professional career related to the topics addressed in the publication, highlighting the book's content as a useful tool for understanding the importance of sustainability in the field of architecture.
