"We must move towards renewable technologies"

On October 21, the conference organized by the Faculty of Science and Technology on electricity generation through wave energy was held.

The event was part of a series of efforts made by the Faculty since the beginning of the cycle with the aim of creating spaces to share valuable content that, according to Andrés López, Dean of the Faculty, “contributes to the training of students”.

The guest on this occasion was Matías Sigal, director of business development activities at Eco Wave Power, a company that has perfected a technology to produce clean energy from the ocean and waves.

For Sigal, we live "a not so sustainable present where most energy is produced with fossil fuels" that contribute to global warming.

Therefore, in his words, "we must move towards renewable technologies."

During the conference, Sigal commented that wave energy or wave energy has some advantages, among them are the reduction of transmission costs and the production of more kinetic energy than wind with smaller devices.

In addition, he stressed that Eco Wave Power generates electricity without environmental impact since, unlike other companies, it does not build infrastructure on the sea surface, but rather adds a kind of float to previously established structures such as piers, piers and piers.

Finally, Sigal mentioned that this type of technology could generate up to twice the energy currently produced and that Ecuador is a great candidate to implement it.
