Course on Ethics, University and Society, promoted by the International Cooperation group of Brazilian Universities (GCUB)

On May 5, the University of Azuay developed the first class of the course on Ethics, University and Society, promoted by the group of International Cooperation of Brazilian Universities (GCUB) based on the inter-institutional agreement signed with the University of Azuay.

The course is aimed at postgraduate students from Brazilian universities and will be held every Wednesday, for 3 hours, for 6 weeks. The professor in charge of the classes is Juan Morales, Director of the Ethics Program of the University of Azuay, who indicated that "it is the first time that the University has taught an ethics course to students from 88 Brazilian universities."

The objective of this course is “to collectively understand, in the virtual classroom, the role of ethics in its relationship with the university and society, from the categorical affirmation that the human and civilizing objective is the protection and care of the life by strengthening environmental and social conditions that favor survival and projection ”.

The content to be debated is the ethical approach, the role of universities in different areas of knowledge and professions, and contemporary society and environment.

The methodology consists of lectures (virtual), reading and discussion of books, articles; and presentation of films and other audiovisual elements.

Morales explains that this initiative stems from a lifelong international relationship with different parts of the planet. And since he has worked with the GCUB for a long time, the opportunity was given for the university to get involved, through its Ethics Program; since one of the main objectives of this program is to study, analyze and research ethics, in order to develop activities that help to strengthen it within the University.

The agreement with the GCUB has been, in the words of Morales, "one of the most active and recognized international university associations in the world" and its initiatives are very popular. For this course there were 500 applicants - postgraduate students (doctorate and postdoctoral) - of which only 100 were selected for a pedagogical topic.

In addition, the activities of the GCUB, in conjunction with the University of Azuay, will not remain in the course of Ethics, University and Society; Because later, the executive director of this group: Rossana Valéria de Souza e Silva, will teach a course on the Brazilian higher education system, to "promote the academic mobility of our students," says Morales.

Thus, through initiatives such as this course, the University of Azuay will continue working to strengthen ethics, so that in this way its students can contribute to the development and improvement of society.
