Fourth bulletin of the Business Observatory

On December 8, the University of Azuay and the Business Observatory celebrated the launch of their fourth bulletin entitled: "Analysis of the environment for the manufacturing sector of non-metallic mineral products 2009 - 2019".

The event was attended by various authorities such as Francisco Salgado, Rector; Martha Cobos, Academic Vice Chancellor; Jacinto Guillén, Vice-rector for Research; Wilson Araque, Vice Chancellor and Director of the academic area of management and of the Observatory of the Simón Bolívar Andean University; Oswaldo Merchán, Dean of the Faculty of Administration Sciences; Ximena Moscoso, Deputy Dean and Coordinator of the Business Observatory, and Alfredo Peña, General Manager of the Graiman Group.

"The pertinent investigations on our reality are extremely important, since, if we do not do them we, nobody else is going to do them", commented Francisco Salgado.

In addition, he stressed the relevance of the presentation of the bulletin as it contains precise information on how companies in the country are performing and thus generating a sense of belonging.

"Within the Academy, local research will always be needed so that our young people do not study cases made in other realities, but study cases that have to do with our own reality and through that, flourish", added the Rector.

For the development of this bulletin, the research teams focused their attention on the non-metallic mineral product manufacturing sector, as its name indicates, due to its importance in the production of inputs for the construction sector.

The main objective of the bulletin was to demonstrate the environment in which this manufacturing sector developed during the period 2009 - 2019, for which the information available from official secondary sources was used.

In addition, the ten most important companies in the sector were identified; On the other hand, the results obtained reflected that the sector has little contribution to the economy and that its activities are concentrated in some provinces.
