Agreement between the Faculty of Philosophy and Municipal Social Action

On October 20, the signing of a linking agreement between the Faculty of Philosophy, Letters and Education Sciences of the University of Azuay and Municipal Social Action - Cuenca: Circo Social.

The project was generated by the professor of Educational Psychology Ximena Chocho, with the support of her colleague Norma Reyes.

According to Mónica Corral, Coordinator of the race, “with this agreement it is intended to cover children who attend institutions belonging to Municipal Social Action such as the Isabel Moscoso Dávila Educational Center, Hermano Enrique Vásquez and Cornelio Crespo Toral. This will try to benefit 232 children with vocational guidance projects ”.

The teachers began with a baseline on the project, which was approved in September. Then they will continue with the execution where they will carry out a survey of the situation and the reality of children and adolescents, which will take them the months of October, November and December.

In this way, they will be able to continue towards the impact evaluation phase for two months, that is, until approximately February, Corral said.

"The objective is to reach children and adolescents from fourth grade to tenth grade of educational establishments with workshops that promote self-esteem, motivation and decision-making."

The teacher added that "it is necessary for children to start working on their life projects from an early age, so that their professional decisions are not made from 6th grade, but they can do so gradually and with maturity."

Being in times of pandemic, children and adolescents have grown up with feelings of insecurity, discontent and fear. These workshops aim to create spaces for personal development, in which children can improve their self-esteem to make timely life decisions, in the long and short term.

In this project the students of the Educational Psychology career will be involved "with the intention that this serve as reflection and action and as a prelude to their career," said Corral and concluded:

"As professionals, our main goal is service and is to provide solutions to the problems of our environment."
