Consulting for the construction of bridges in the province of Azuay

Within the framework of the Knowledge and Culture Conference organized by the Faculty of Science and Technology, on June 17, the discussion "Comprehensive engineering designs for 15 concrete and steel bridges for the Provincial Government of Azuay by the School of Civil Engineering took place. of the University of Azuay ”.

The speakers were Patricia Palacios, Mateo Narváez, Mishel Carrión and Karla Ortiz, all engineers graduated from among the best students of the School of Civil Engineering, who participated in this project advised by professors in different areas of this specialty.

In addition to students and teachers of the degree, professionals from Quito, Riobamba and Ambato, as well as members of the Association of Civil Engineers of the Tecnológico de Zacatepec, Mexico participated in the discussion.

The engineer José Vásquez, Coordinator of the School, stressed that all the consulting for this project with the provincial government "is carried out exclusively by personnel from our University and its graduates."

Vásquez added that the concept that prevails in the development of bridges is, in the first instance, the evaluation of two variants at the pre-design level of two different possible technologies to be plastered in a certain place.

"Then a value engineering is carried out and by means of an analysis of variables such as accessibility, qualified labor, space for assembly, current access routes, the two typologies are faced and, by means of weighted coefficients, they are qualified and a result is obtained which is the best variant for that particular bridge ”.

All these studies are then subjected to an audit and it is decided which technology to choose.
