This May 21, Matías Abad, professor at the School of International Studies, presented the videoconference "Understanding the Ecuadorian economic crisis". More than eighty people participated in the event, including professors and students from the Universidad del Azuay.

The event addressed the causes of the current precarious situation of the Ecuadorian economy, as well as possible scenarios to confront and overcome it.

Among the highlights, it was emphasized that despite the 2019 political and social crisis, the 2020 budget saw no reduction.

“Due to the drastic reduction in tax and oil revenues, Ecuador registers a financing need of more than 12 billion dollars; situation that becomes more complex because the country does not have reserves or savings, in addition to being dollarized, there is no possibility of devaluing or printing currency, "explained the teacher.

Finally, Abad ratified the need to sell the State's unproductive assets, facilitate labor hiring, restructure the debt and create a scenario of legal security and incentives to attract investment, the creation of new companies and, therefore, generate sources of employment. to improve the quality of life of Ecuadorians.
