How can science inform education? “The essential thing is knowledge” Nuno Crato reveals important data to young people and teachers at the Day of Academic Reflection, permanent Symposium on the University

On September 11, the Academic Reflection Day titled "Fundamental Principles for Education" was held with great success, aimed at teachers and young people from the various educational units, including La Asunción, Las Marianitas and María Auxiliadora.

This outstanding event is part of the Permanent Symposium on the University and is aligned with our commitments in relation to the Sustainable Development Goals.

We are proud to announce that Nuno Crato, former Minister of Education and Science of Portugal, was the main speaker of this relevant day, who will also join us on Tuesday, September 12, on the second day of this meeting. Crato is a distinguished researcher whose academic work focuses on the development of statistical models with applications to economic and social problems. Additionally, his experience includes evaluating policies based on statistical data, providing valuable insight for improving the educational field.

The first day of the event was specially designed for an enriching meeting with young people and teachers. During this session, crucial issues related to the educational curriculum were addressed and the significance of the PISA (OECD Program for International Student Assessment) tests in an international context was explored. The PISA tests aim to evaluate the ability of 15-year-old students to apply their knowledge and skills in reading, mathematics and science to solve real-world challenges.

This event represents an important step in our constant pursuit of academic excellence and the drive toward quality education, aligned with the fundamental principles and current challenges facing our society.
