Talk about good hygiene practices in domestic kitchens

From this Friday, May 22, the School of Food Engineering begins with a series of talks on the handling and preservation of food within the home in times of the health emergency, with the participation of teachers from this school and staff from the Faculty laboratories. of Science and Technology.

The origin of the initiative lies in the fact that many families, in their domestic kitchens, are making different prepared foods -for example, fruit preserves, pastry products, among others- as a way to generate additional income for the nucleus family, so the kitchens in our homes are becoming micro-enterprises.

"Due to a principle of responsibility, it is important to maintain hygiene standards and procedures that guarantee the safety of the food that will be served at our tables, whether they are prepared for family consumption or for those that will be sold to customers," said Monica Tinoco.

In the talk "Good hygiene practices in our kitchens in COVID-19 time", prepared by teachers Mónica Tinoco and Johanna Tacuri, information will be given on the various chemicals that are on the market and their mode of use, a topic that may generate confusion when making a decision about which to buy and use without causing harm to health.

"It must be clear that the different chemicals offered in the market are not useful in all scenarios, hence the importance of knowing and knowing how to use the different substances used to fight bacteria and viruses," said Tacuri.

Additionally, it will explain the washing and disinfection of fruits, handling of fresh meats, correct storage of food in the refrigerator and, finally, the cleaning and disinfection of kitchen utensils to avoid cross-contamination, in order to minimize risks biological and chemical when preparing food.

The talk is open to all the students, professors and administrative staff of the University, as well as the general public who have an interest in preserving the health of their families and developing their micro home businesses without risks.
