Ariel Dawi: conversations with landscape and color

Ariel Dawi: conversations with landscape and color

On June 28, the University of Azuay together with its Publishing House presented the book “Ariel Dawi. Conversations with landscape and color”, by author Cristóbal Zapata. With this title our Publishing House inaugurates the “La Mirada” project, dedicated to modern and contemporary Cuenca art.

The event was attended by authorities, teachers and administrative staff, friends and family of the author and the general public.

At the end of 1992, the Argentine artist Ariel Dawi arrived in Cuenca and fell in love with the city forever. A few weeks later, at the Larrazábal gallery, he inaugurated the first of the numerous exhibitions that he has presented to date, whose geography will soon become one of the central motifs of his pictorial work. Ariel Dawi.

The author immerses us in Dawi's universe, making important reflections on his understanding of landscape and painting, locating the cultural roots of his production, organizing the constellation of his plastic universe, compiling documents and texts by other authors who have been part of their trajectory and dialogue over time.

The welcoming words were given by our rector, Francisco Salgado, who expressed his joy at the inauguration of this new collection dedicated to the art and artists of Cuenca. He mentioned that he hopes that the work is the beginning of a long and beautiful history with the memory and present of Cuenca art.

Subsequently, a dialogue took place between the author Cristobal Zapata and Ariel Dawi, the protagonist of the book, who talked about his career and works, keeping the audience interested in the work presented.
