Conservation and sustainable use areas in Cuenca canton

On October 19, the University of Azuay, the Municipal GAD of Cuenca, the Parish GAD of Baños, the Administrative Board of Drinking Water and Regional Sanitation Project Nero, the FONAPA Trust and the International Nature and Culture Corporation, were part of the subscription ADENDAS to the Interinstitutional Cooperation Framework Agreement.

The objective of signing this agreement is the conservation of natural heritage, ecosystem connectivity and water security, which are fundamental to guarantee the right to water, which will benefit thousands of families in the region.

In the event, Francisco Salgado, Rector of the University of Azuay, stressed that “in the last 20 years Ecuador has had great natural phenomena that have ended in disasters where 60% of them have been caused by floods and 40% correspond to to geological phenomena related to earthquakes or volcanic eruptions ”.

"We seek to join in this agreement several organizations having as a fundamental objective the creation of an area of ​​conservation and sustainable use where the natural resources of the Yanuncay River are protected, that is why the University of Azuay is committed to protecting water", added the Rector.

The adhesion agreements signed in this event were: that of the University of Azuay, that of Stage EP. that of the Parish GAD of Victoria del Portete, the Parish GAD of San Joaquín and the Parish GAD of Chaucha.
