Analyzing Validivia, the oldest pottery culture in Ecuador

From October 26 to 30, the seminar was held organized by the Open University Department of the University of Azuay and the College of Archaeologists, Anthropologists and Historians of the South (AAHSUR) under the theme “Valdivia, a Neolithic society: new contributions to its knowledge".

This thematic seminar had as its central axis the Valdivia culture, which has been the object of study both inside and outside the country as it is the most relevant pottery culture in Ecuador and one of the oldest in the region.

The list of speakers for this event was made up of Richard Lunnis, James Zeidler, Jorge Marcos Pino, Ronald Lippi and John Staller, whose presentations had more than 90 attendees per day on the Zoom platform.

The talks had with Mary Jadan, president of AAHSUR, and Mario Brazzero, teacher of the UDA, as moderators.

"A book of studies carried out around the Valdivia culture will be launched soon, this seminar was in some way an expectation for that launch with the idea of ​​socializing the different findings both to a specialized public and to students and other professionals", commented the anthropologist Mario Brazzero.

“Without a doubt it is important to renew the theory about the original cultures of Ecuador; We seek to take advantage of the current virtuality to generate this space for dialogue that aims to bring the academic and research part to the students through experts ”, Brazzero concluded.

The University of Azuay and the AAHSUR awarded a certificate of participation to those attending this thematic seminar in order to contribute to the portfolio of those enrolled.
