55 years of the UDA and "Laureates" ceremony. We celebrate the efforts of our university community

On November 1, in the general auditorium of the University of Azuay, the celebration of the Solemn Session was held for the 55 years of institutional life of the UDA and the decoration of the best graduates of each school in the period September 2022 – October 2023; event that was framed in the fulfillment of the Sustainable Development Goals promoted by the United Nations, specifically objective 4: Quality Education.

This was a day to recognize and live the essence, the path taken and the meaning of our University that commemorates 55 years of institutional life for the good of the city, province and country. Likewise, congratulate the students who, for their outstanding academic life, wear a laurel wreath, which in ancient Greece and Rome was given as a reward to poets, athletes and warriors. A Laureate is a person who has received an award, laurel leaves crown the best and the University of Azuay wanted to pay tribute to the 2022-2023 Laureates.

The welcome speech was given by our rector, Francisco Salgado, who in his words highlighted that the university celebrates 55 years of institutional life in a wonderful setting where youth is the protagonist because it is the day to recognize the students who stood out for his effort. And effort is precisely the value that is at the origin of our University, which had to fight and make a lot of effort not despite initial difficulties but precisely because of them, because the spirit of a strong community made the seed emerge and allowed it to flourish to be a space to do good.

In turn, the Rector pointed out that the University of Azuay conceives autonomy as the ability to do things for ourselves, exercising our own responsibility, as demonstrated in the election of the first authorities with a democratic sense in which the UDA has been a pioneer in the country, as well as in many other things such as the credit system, the internet on campus and the evaluation of teachers, which made us the first accredited University in the country.

At the end of the intervention, the students went on to receive the “Honorato Vásquez” award, “diploma for the best graduate” and the “Cesar Dávila Andrade” award, according to their academic merit. As appropriate in an academic celebration like this, the polyphonic choir sang the university anthem par excellence We gauge Igitur

At the end of this emotional meeting, all attendees went to the Faculty of Science and Technology to enjoy a toast of fellowship in the Tower Café. This new tower, which was inaugurated today, represents the symbol of higher education “in the highest and for the highest.” To rise above ourselves, to the highest - in science, in technology, in philosophy - to do good with deep human sensitivity, to tenderly care for life, our rector pointed out.
