"Dolores Veintimilla" an exhaustive work that brings together various studies on the iconic Ecuadorian writer

On October 5 at the University of Azuay, the Presentation of the book “Dolores Veintimilla” by author Hernán Rodríguez Castelo was held, an event that is framed within the fulfillment of the sustainable development objectives, mainly objective 4: Quality Education. This meeting organized by the University Publishing House was attended by authorities, professors, administrative staff and students from our university community.

Hernán Rodriguez was a passionate defender of accessible reading for all. He founded the “Clásicos Ariel” collection, a bridge between creator and cultural promoter, guaranteeing access to Ecuadorian literature at affordable prices. In addition, he was a pioneer in children's literature.

The author plays the role of literary archaeologist, collecting and analyzing previous research and then taking a critical approach. The book is divided into sections that explore Veintimilla's life, key moments and influences, as well as unraveling the tragedy of his death.

Genoveva Malo, vice-rector of the University, who addressed a few words to the public, pointed out that the protagonist of the book is undoubtedly an icon in women's literature and poetry. Her brave voice and thoughts that were precursors on issues of women's and indigenous rights, as well as the death penalty, are present in this book.

In the words of Hernán Rodríguez Castelo, author of the book “Rarely in the American poetry of that time has adolescent love been poetically expressed with such high lyrical powers.”

This edition invites us to know and understand more about his life, as strong as his poetry, which was short but left a legacy in American poetry, adolescent romanticism, disappointments and pain, paying tribute to his own name.
