Saint Francis of Assisi and the care of life. Community celebration
The University of Azuay commemorated the festival of San Francisco de Asís, patron saint of ecology and animals, through an emotional Eucharistic celebration that took place in the Clara y Francisco de Asís Chapel. Auxiliary Bishop Monsignor Fernando Ortega presided over the mass, which brought together authorities, professors, students and members of our university community.
Saint Francis of Assisi, a historical and religious figure revered throughout the world, is widely recognized as the founder of the Franciscan Order and is considered a saint by the Catholic Church. His legacy transcends religious boundaries, as he promoted a deep respect for all of God's creation, including animals, establishing an important precedent in the history of environmental ethics.
Following the ceremony, a pet blessing took place outside the Chapel. This gesture allowed everyone present to share a special moment with their faithful friends, who were also part of this festivity on the university campus.
This event not only highlights the importance of Saint Francis of Assisi as the patron saint of ecology and animals, but also promotes values of respect towards all forms of life, thus contributing to strengthening environmental awareness and love for living beings in University.
