Hernán Sacoto promotes the exchange of knowledge in the United States and strengthens the Medicine career of the UDA

Hernán Sacoto, one of the founders of the Faculty of Medicine approximately 20 years ago, is a prominent professor and attending physician at two hospitals in the city. Recently, as a representative of the Alimentary Tract Surgery Society of Ecuador, he attended the 64th congress of three large associations in the United States: the American Gastroenterology Association, the American Association of Digestive Endoscopy, and the Alimentary Tract Surgery Society. .

The mega-event called the week of the digestive system brought together professionals from all over the world, including an Ecuadorian delegation of around 30 people. Hernán Sacoto and his team took the opportunity to discuss plans to improve education and knowledge of surgery for suggestive diseases in Ecuador.

The challenges posed are considerable, since they involve aspects of great importance. In the first place, it is necessary to close the technological and knowledge gap between countries with higher incomes and those with fewer resources. And to achieve this, it is essential to get up to date in acquiring knowledge in the treatment of both simple and complex pathologies.

In turn, Hernán Sacoto stressed that it is very attractive to guarantee adequate training that allows our students to carry out internships in hospitals in the United States and other continents. These internships are a way to complement the knowledge obtained through reading texts and magazines, and thus strengthen skills and experiences in the medical field.

-From the medical side, how does our country and the University of Azuay benefit from your representation?- we consulted.

-Access to this type of instances has become more viable for the country, since the prohibitive costs that previously made it difficult to participate in congresses have been reduced thanks to the established agreements. This opens a door for the Faculty of Medicine, through the University, to benefit from bringing professors and being part of medical congresses that address more specific topics. This collaboration will not only enrich academic training, but would also allow the UDA to expand its presence in the field of medicine and establish connections with internationally renowned professionals- Sacoto commented.

In conclusion, the participation of Hernán Sacoto in the international medical congress marks a milestone for the Faculty of Medicine and the University. The reduction of costs and the established agreements allow an exchange of knowledge and in this way continue advancing with the Medicine career in our country.
