Workshop on "Government Communication in Crisis Contexts"

Workshop on "Government Communication in Crisis Contexts"

The first "Government Communication in Crisis Contexts" course, taught by Professor Caroline Ávila, was held on January 24 and 25 and was in charge of the Department of Continuing Education at the University of Azuay.

The initiative of the workshop comes from the training program for Sectional Governments by the IERSE (Institute for Sectional Regime Studies of Ecuador), within which a topic to be addressed is communication. The course lasted two days with a total of 22 contact hours and activities in the virtual classroom.

"The idea is to reflect because there is little time to do more things than a reflection, but a reflection that in turn gives us tools to manage the Government Communication," said the professor.

This is the first workshop, managed by the University, which specifically dealt with government communication. It should be noted that, when talking about this branch of communication, there is no talk about campaigns or elections, but rather it focuses on the government process that has different objectives and different recipients.

“There is a whole different strategic construction of electoral communication. Therefore, it is important to train ourselves and, at least in this course, to introduce a reflection and small tools so that we can leave with the interest to continue deepening in this line of political communication that is government communication, ”said Avila.

The positive response from the assistants ensures an upcoming workshop on the subject, however, the next step is the creation of a course on line which would work with partner institutions to be able to take it nationally.
