Visit of Biology students to Yasuni

Students of the seventh cycle of the Biology degree, Professor Joaquín López and School technicians visited the Yasuni National Park, considered the most biodiverse area on the planet.

“The Yasuni is a magical place and what I lived was impressive, I was reduced to nothing before the gigantic roots of ceibos over 200 years old, given the certainty of how little we care about the planet, but how much we are consuming nature because of our conflicts, because there, in the heart of Tambococha, it was impossible not to hear the sound of a chainsaw, cutting down a few ceibos, ”said Ann Frias, one of the students in the group.

The purpose of the visit was to assess this unique Amazonian ecosystem in the world and meet the reality of the communities that live near the park as part of the subjects of environmental policy and environmental restoration.

"What took me from this trip is the exceptional way of interacting with nature and the magnificent nature of its biodiversity, of a unique Tropical Forest of Ecuador," said student Mateo Tapia.

For his part, his partner Franceso Bresciani added: “I will miss the roar of the motor of the boat, the thick humid heat, the taste of the river fish and even the hundreds of daily bites of the annoying mosquitoes; everything is worth it for each morning to see the strong but calm waters of the proud navigable river. ”

During the four days of the visit they were in the Community Tourism Project Sacha Nampi, which means "Forest Path", from the Alta Florencia Kichwa community, located in the Aguarico Canton, on the banks of the Napo River, where they could also experience this type of undertakings carried out by inhabitants of the area.

These projects, by contributing to the economy of the community, serve as an incentive to conserve the forest.

"There are things like this that are not done from the screen, even" HD ", and it is important to be in place to learn, value and even to be able to comment," concluded Professor Lopez.
