Launch of the book Noise 2019

The December 3 was held at the General Auditorium of the University of Azuay, the launch of the book “Noise”, prepared in collaboration with the Autonomous Decentralized Government of Cuenca, the Environmental Management Commission and the support of the Institute for Regime Studies Section of Ecuador (IERSE).

Francisco Salgado, Rector of the UDA, began the ceremony with the following words: “This is a project so that the situation of the city can be known with the civic spirit of making the effort to improve, that is what we most motivates as a university ”.

The main objective of the paper is to present the results obtained from noise monitoring in the city of Cuenca, which is mainly caused by vehicular traffic, since through these data the Environmental Quality Index of the urban area of Cuenca is calculated.

This research is carried out, since along with the growth of the population, the presence of noise has increased due to daily activities, mainly due to the increase in vehicles.

"The noise can generate health conditions, not only physical but also psychological, which can cause stress, headache and gastrointestinal problems," said Julia Martínez, research professor at IERSE.

The results of the noise monitoring have been carried out thanks to the implementation of six remote sensors in strategic sites of the city, this mechanism allows to have data that shows the noise situation in real time.

For his part, Omar Delgado, director of the IERSE, explained that one of the main purposes was to disseminate the results of the book to the general population, since in previous years the book was discussed only in technical spaces of academia.

“The most important thing is that citizens know the results so that they can become aware and make ethical changes in their lives. On this occasion, we also prepared a poster for the children we sent to the educational institutions, ”concluded Delgado.
