First International Meeting of Social Management in Ecuador

The November 28 and 29, the University of Azuay, the National Polytechnic School and the Simón Bolívar Andean University organized the First International Meeting of Social Management in Ecuador.

The objective of this meeting was to generate a space for dialogue to address the epistemological and methodological foundations of the so-called social management, which raised a break with the hegemonic currents of the administration.

On the first day of the meeting, at the Eugenio Espejo Hall of the Simón Bolívar Andean University, the thematic tables that participated in the event were presented:

"Social management: theory and practice", "Social management and third sector organizations" and "Social management and innovation".

Each theme had national and international exhibitors; Among the teachers in Brazil, Colombia and Ecuador were Fernando Guilherme, Sérgio Allebrandt, Karem Sánchez, José Pereira, Airton Cardoso, Patricio Carpio and Andrés Abad.

On the second day, the event moved to the Hall of Honor of the University of Azuay, from nine in the morning until five in the afternoon.

"For our University it is a pleasure to receive teachers and authors who have collaborated in the development of research in the field of Social Sciences, these projects have allowed us to open our eyes and change our linear perspective of seeing the world," said Francisco Salgado, Rector of the UDA.

Then, the participation of the thematic table called “Social Management Perspectives and Challenges”, where Fernando Guilherme was present, was moderated.

Throughout the afternoon, the presentation of the second thematic table was held: "Practices and knowledge for Social Management", directed by Andrés Abad. In addition, the exhibition of the Master in Public Management was held at the University of Azuay

Finally, the presentation of the book "Social management: epistemology of a paradigm" by the authors Airton Cardoso, José Pereira and Fernando Guilherme was carried out.

The act began with the welcoming words of Francisco Salgado, who was also responsible for explaining the background of the book presented.

Then a small ceremony took place in which Fernando Guilherme was awarded the title of Honorary Professor of the UDA in recognition of his academic, professional and human trajectory.

Once this act was over, Mariana Lima, PhD in Administration from the Brazilian School of Public Administration and Business Administration, spoke about the work.

“This is a book that touched my soul deeply, has a language that takes us by the hand and allows us to reach society, it is a very sweet and light text that did not lose any of its composition when translated,” said Lima.

Immediately Father Antonio Polo intervened, who addressed those present in order to expose and applaud the research work of the authors, in addition to complementing Lima's words about the book.

To culminate in the event, Fernando Guilherme, Postdoctor in Public Administration from the Autonomous University of Barcelona and co-author of the book, gave way.

“This visit to Ecuador is undoubtedly the perfect opportunity to present the content of our book, which focuses on linking the community in social projects; the reader will generate a greater sense of belonging by better understanding the history of their country ”, commented Guilherme.

After his words, attendees were invited to the Hernán Malo Library lobby for a wine of honor as the closing ceremony.
