Biology professors and students publish scientific article

Professors and students from the School of Biology, Ecology and Management of the University of Azuay published the scientific article "Description of the immature stages of a rare Andean paramo butterfly Lymanopoda caracara Pyrcz, Willmott & J. Hall, 1999 (Lepidoptera: Nymphalidae)" , in the international journal Zoological Systematics 2019 Vol.44.

The article describes for the first time the immature stages and the host plant of one of the rarest, little known and restricted butterflies in Ecuador: Lymanopoda caracara.

"In this publication I had the pleasure of working with two great world experts of Neotropical butterflies: Pierre Boyer of France and Tomasz Pyrcz of Poland," said Professor Sebastián Padrón and added:

"But the most important thing is that Ariana Vélez, a student in the fifth cycle of the degree, participates as co-author in this international scientific publication.

For its part, the student said it was a rewarding and enriching experience to have published her first scientific article.

"I hope to continue working on other publications that encourage me to develop and learn new skills," Velez concluded.
