Reissue of the first regulatory plan of Cuenca

The November 6, in the Multiple Use Room, presented the book "Draft Basin Regulatory Plan, 1947", reissue of the first regulatory plan of Cuenca prepared by the Uruguayan architect Gilberto Gatto Sobral in 1947, which became a masterpiece of urbanism in the mid-twentieth century.

The event was attended by Cristina Gatto, daughter of the architect; Joaquín Moscoso, Executive Director of the National Institute of Cultural Heritage (INPC), and Patricio Zamora, Regional Director of the institute.

“This publication clearly contains an urban vision based on the modern paradigm. After World War II, architecture resurfaced after the work done by architects with different visions, ”said Carlos Jaramillo, an architect who commented on the work.

“In these 390 years Cuenca has retained the same spatial configuration maintained since its Spanish foundation, the ideological changes produced in this last century forced society to generate several transformations. For this reason, architecture has been in charge of tuning the city with modernity, ”added Santiago Vanegas, Coordinator of the School of Architecture, which in 2019 celebrates 10 years.

Vanegas thanked the authorities who made possible the redesign of the mentioned book. The first three copies of the publication were delivered as gifts to the Rector of the university; to Andrés Pauta, representative of the Architecture students, and Cristina Gatto, daughter of the architect.

"I am sure that my father would be proud if he were with all of us, seeing the planning of his works and projects bear fruit," said the guest.

Finally, all those present were cordially invited to the Hernán Malo library lobby to enjoy a short violin recital and make a toast of honor.
