Conference on communication with a focus on human rights

On October 30 in the Multiple Use Room, the Communication conference with a focus on human rights was given by the Citizen Observatory of Communication.

The event began with a conversation between the professors of the School of Communication Caroline Ávila and Matías Zibell about the media and their performance during the national strike in Ecuador in October.

Both teachers agreed on the idea that today's society increasingly seeks to be informed, but often does not do it in the most appropriate way.

Then, the professor of the National University of Education (UNAE) Marcela Sambudio presented the results of a comparative study conducted from 2014 to 2019 about advertising and its different variables.

The teacher confirmed the inequality in the treatment of different genres in many advertisements and talked about how through the questioning about advertising we can help change people's behavior.

Finally, Sandra López, from the Citizen Communication Observatory, presented the results of a tweet-based investigation during the last regional elections.

Lopez also talked about gender equity in the news and stereotypes.

After the presentations an activity was carried out in groups in which the public should reflect and present a proposal so that journalism and advertising are activities that contribute to human rights.
