Immunodeficiency conference with a genetic approach at the Hospital del Río

The September 23 held immunodeficiency conferences with a genetic focus in the auditorium of the Hospital del Río, with the assistance of students of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Azuay, professors, doctors and the general public.

“The immunodeficiency conference is an old aspiration of professionals who are dedicated to immunology in the city, to be able to study appropriately, molecularly and genetically, patients who have a group of rare diseases, but relatively frequent when they join en masse, ”said Claudia Rodas, professor of immunology at UDA.

The topics discussed revolved around how to improve the study of primary immunodeficiencies. "We no longer just want to see the study of immunology from the classical study but also genetic and for this we invite the recruitment of patients to study their cases, via research project," added the teacher.

The day lasted two and a half hours and was divided into the presentation of the results of the research work, the discussion of local clinical cases and finally a conversation about how to coordinate and the efforts to carry out the investigations.

“The importance of these days of immunodeficiency is essential to be able to continue updating ourselves in knowledge and in a very stressed way, the fact that we can establish ties with universities that have the possibility of doing studies that we still cannot do in the country, and of free way to patients who cannot access this type of studies, ”concluded Claudia Rodas.
