Work tables to promote electronic commerce

On Tuesday, July 30, the "Work Tables for the Construction of the National Electronic Commerce Strategy" was inaugurated, an event held by the Ministry of Telecommunications and the Information Society (MINTEL); the Ministry of Production, Foreign Trade, Investment and Fisheries, and the University of Azuay.

The meeting, which took place in the Multiple Use Room of the UDA, is framed in the implementation of the Ecuador Digital Strategy, which in its innovative and Competitive Ecuador program seeks the implementation of ICT in the productive and social sectors of the country; as well as strengthening electronic commerce and the confidence of citizens in the use of these services nationwide.

At the beginning of this event, Francisco Salgado, Rector of the University of Azuay, stressed that the work table will allow the joint construction of a national strategy in electronic commerce, which will make it possible to measure how high the expectations can be.

Subsequently, Jaime Moreno, Executive Director of the Chamber of Commerce of Cuenca, said: “We must acquire knowledge of the security that exists in the use of credit cards, access to electronic signatures and secure platforms; we have to use the tools that society gives us so that computer networks are used with greater rigor and consistency, and thus obtain a better future. ”

Leonardo Ottati, President of the Ecuadorian Chamber of Electronic Commerce, thanked the government and the academy for being a modular part of the decisions that should be taken in the area of ​​electronic commerce, and the Chamber of Commerce of Cuenca for its contribution to the country.

Francisco Xavier Suasti, Undersecretary of Defense and Commercial Regulations of the Ministry of Production, Foreign Trade, Investment and Fisheries, explained the importance of the development of this meeting and stressed the efforts that have been made with various civil society organizations.

When it was his turn, Juan Carlos Chiluiza, Director of Government Infrastructure and Technical Regulations, invited us to reflect on the contribution of ICTs in the national economy and the importance of the Digital Ecuador Strategy in this context.

This rapporteur highlighted three fundamental axes: Connected Ecuador, which consists of 98% of telecommunications services connectivity to 2021; Efficient and cybersecurity Ecuador, which are the 80% of Central Government procedures in line with the 2021, and Innovative and competitive Ecuador, which is included in the National Digital Transformation Agenda.

María Emilia Crespo, Director of Regional Integration of the Ministry, concluded: “We want that along with the hand of private sector entrepreneurs continue this new trend that in today's globalized world just affect us and allow us to be topics of discussion” .

During the meeting four work tables were held distributed in different classrooms, in which the growth of electronic commerce in micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) was addressed; the legal framework; payment and security systems; local logistics, and the facilitation of electronic commerce.
