Improvement of mathematics learning

The Faculty of Science and Technology of the UDA directs a project for the improvement of the process of learning mathematics in courses that are aimed at high school teachers of private schools and prosecutors with the idea of breaking this knowledge gap that exists between schools and University.

"This initiative was born due to the criticism that exists from the university towards the schools; we complain that the students do not arrive with the adequate level to be able to study what we offer, this happens with more frequency in the technical careers ", explained Andrés López, Dean of the Faculty, and added:

"When the kids arrive at the university they arrive with very heterogeneous knowledge, that causes many students to lose subjects related to mathematics and physics".

The project - which has the backing of the Ministry of Education and the collaboration of the Ecuadorian Corporation for the Development of Research and the Academy (CEDIA) - has two phases:

A perfecting course for mathematics that lasts for 198 hours, which started the 6 in June and will end in the month of November.

And a mathematics teaching course, which is focused on didactics - that is, how to carry out math classes - and on the motivation of people who are related to the world of mathematics (especially teachers), which lasts 108 hours and is scheduled to end in the month of July.

"The idea, in short, is to improve knowledge, reduce the gap between school and university, and set up a school of mathematics as a philosophical school of mathematics, to do research and analyze all these cases that are replicated at the level world ", concluded the Dean of the Faculty of Science and Technology.

The process will be evaluated to improve the initiative in view of a second version in January of 2020.
