Launch of the book collection "Democracy and Human Rights"

The 28 of June, the University of Azuay and the International Republican Institute (IRI) launched the collection of books "Democracy and Human Rights" in the Philosophy Auditorium of the University of Azuay.

The work contains a small retrospective of how politics has been handled throughout Ecuador's history and analyzes the consequences that bad decisions have brought us.

To start the ceremony, the Dean of the Faculty of Legal Sciences, José Chalco Quezada, intervened with a brief review about the International Republican Institute, which supported the creation of the book.

The Dean invited all the audience present to read and learn about the ideas expressed in the work and said that these ideas will be fruitful for those who assume their civic duty as citizens, as they reflect ethics and, above all, justice.

Next, Miguel Hernández, Resident Program Director of the International Republican Institute (IRI), commented on the publication and shared with the audience his idea that Latin America is stagnating and, instead of seeking a common welfare, is stopped by the corruption.

The idea with which Hernandez ended his speech was that authorities and citizens must practice transparency, so that a real change occurs in the country.

Tarquino Orellana, the third speaker, agreed on the negative effects of corruption, among which is the perversion of democracy and the violation of the particular rights of citizens.

Finally, the authors of the work, Gloria Araya and Luis Verdesoto, addressed the audience, who commented on the characteristics of their work.

Sometimes we forget that as citizens we have many rights and that, in addition, we can actively influence the course of democracy, said Araya.

Democratic action was manipulated for a decade, so it is important to encourage and promote research, to achieve different results in the future, concluded Verdesoto.
