Ethnoeducation workshop

The 14 in June took place the Ethnoeducation Workshop in the Walter Auquilla Auditorium in the Educational Unit "La Asunción". The workshop was organized by the School of Special Education and was attended by special guests and students from the School of Initial Education and the School of Tourism.

Bernarda Quintanilla, Coordinator of the School of Special Education, affirmed that the objective of the workshop was to reflect on ethno-education and the real application of interculturality in our environment, for which Belén Congo and Inti Cartuche, experts in the area, were invited .

In the first instance, Cartuche touched on topics such as interculturality, racism and the reality that exists in our country when talking about exclusion. He also spoke about the indigenous movement and how it has been proposing the idea of ​​a bilingual education.

In addition, he emphasized equity between Ecuadorian peoples and the reason for questioning our relationship with people from ethnic groups different from ours. Finally, he commented on how Andean Spanish has a lot of Quechua language and how our roots can be seen in our way of speaking.

In the second instance, Congo addressed his conference from the point of view of Afro-Ecuadorians. He told many anecdotes about his childhood and about the life of people who have dark skin in terms of abuse, marginalization and racism.

To conclude, the speaker referred to the ways of breaking internal stereotypes about racism and how to be an educator, and to be reflected in children, she urges him every day to continue fighting for the rights of women and people of colour.
