VII Congress of Medical Emergencies UDAMED 2019

The Association of Students of the Faculty of Medicine of the UDA made the days 9, 10 and 11 of May the Congress of Medical Emergencies UDAMED 2019.

The event was organized in 6 main axes: internal medicine, trauma and surgery, gynecology, pediatrics, legal medicine and bioethics.

"It is important that one leaves the everyday to be in these congresses," said the Rector of the UDA, Francisco Salgado, to an audience composed of professors and students from different universities in the city, adding:

"In the congresses one can learn a lot, but at the same time one of the greatest lessons is to know other people. Have the possibility to look different, because they will find other people who will surely learn from them. I invite you to enjoy this congress and to participate with great enthusiasm. "

The Rector also referred to the decrease in the salary of rotating inmates: "It is essential to share in these congresses as well as to raise our voice when necessary, as you have done young people in defense of the rights of rotating inmates of the country, and in this we are accompanying them ".

Cumandá Merchán, Subdecana of the Faculty of Medicine, expressed his congratulations to the organizers of the event and mentioned that this meeting has a special connotation "because it takes place at the moment that the country's health system is going through budgetary difficulties, which have created stumbling blocks for development for the rotating interns program. "

"However, multiplying efforts, time, dedication and above all conviction, you medical students who have been militating and providing support to their peers, have overcome the difficulties privileging academic goals by organizing today's event that fosters unity," added Merchán.

Andrés Álvarez, President of the Student Association of the Faculty of Medicine, welcomed in this same line.

"I make a call to the union not only among us, University of Azuay, but with the whole society. These are moments of struggle for our comrades, remember in a short time we will be the ones in hospitals working like them. I remind you that there is a Faculty of Medicine that makes possible the impossible. "

The congress had two main scenarios: the General Auditorium of the University, where the main presentations took place, and the Multiple Use Room where workshops were held such as one dedicated to sutures and another on basic electrocardiography for the emergency.

The Vice President of the Students Association of the Faculty of Medicine, María Teresa León, explained that they wanted to give a new perspective to this traditional call, more modern and with local, national and international speakers.

"We have managed to have around 180 registered participants and we will continue learning for upcoming events," concluded León.
