Solemn session and reopening of the library '' Hernán Malo ''

With a Solemn Session held on the morning of April 25 in the Central Auditorium of the University of Azuay, authorities, professors and students paid tribute to professors and administrative staff for completing 25 years of service to the Institution.

Francisco Salgado, Rector of the UDA, gave some words of welcome and highlighted the work of the people who are part of the University:

"This act has the purpose of entertaining those who have given 25 years of their life to the service of the University. Today we want to reward the journey of teachers, their knowledge and vision of the world. "

After the words of the Rector, the polyphonic choir of the Universidad del Azuay sang the Gaudeamus igitur, a student song by an anonymous author that, over the years, has become the university anthem par excellence.

Then, the University Council recognized the professors who fulfilled 25 years of commitment with the University. All the professors were given a Commemorative Button and an Institutional Agreement.

Similarly, the Association of Teachers of the University of Azuay congratulated the decorated with a plaque for having been part of the Association for 25 years of service.

The teachers honored were: Teodoro Cubero, economist; René Nivelo, economist; Carlos Terreros, engineer; Catalina Vintimilla, architect, and doctors Franklin Bucheli, Tarquino Orellana and Jorge Piedra.

"For me it has been a feeling of renewal and commitment. I never imagined reaching a career with 25 years of teaching. I am very happy for everything that has been done and I am willing to continue contributing for the benefit of the youth, "said Franklin Bucheli, founder of the School of Tourism.

On the other hand, the University Council - together with the Association of Employees and Workers - rewarded the effort of the administrative staff who fulfilled an outstanding trajectory of 25 years.

The decorated ones were: Sara Delgado, engineer; Ximena Mejía, doctor; Victoria Hermida, senior technician; and the graduates Cecilia Loja and Alicia Amaya Zamora.

As a last point, Dr. Jorge Piedra Cardoso addressed a full audience, representing all the winners: "We are not the same as two and a half decades ago. In the nineties we had a world full of dreams: a vocation to serve and teach. 25 years ago we were the new generation of teachers and administrators. Now retirement seems to be close. ''

At the end of the event, the University of Azuay thanked all the attendees for their presence and invited the official inauguration of the library '' Hernán Malo ''

Reopening of the library '' Hernán Malo ''

At the 12 of the day, the Universidad del Azuay opened the doors of a technological and sustainable library. The library '' Hernán Malo '' works with solar panels and has two new pavilions of 728 and 900 square meters that keep harmony with nature.

The Rector of the University stressed that it was built in five months with the help of students and professors from the Schools of Architecture and Civil Engineering. According to Francisco Salgado, it was cemented among the gardens with the intention of giving light, magic and color to all who visit it.

After the words of the Rector, the Dance Company performed a contemporary dance work; then, Father Romel Soto gave the blessing to the new library. To close, Francisco Salgado invited Pedro Palacios, Mayor-elect of Cuenca, and Xavier Enderica, Governor of Azuay, to cut the bar and thus give officially inaugurated the building.

"The idea is super well conceived, it has a minimalist style. Congratulations to all who were part of this and especially to the students. A quiet environment to study with spectacular cubicles. A space that belongs to the University, but that is part of the city, "said the elected mayor, Pedro Palacios.

The governor, Xavier Enderica, also gave his statements on the impression he had of the library: "This is an equipment for the whole province and an advance as a society. I understand that it is not easy to make an investment of almost two million dollars, but if it is for the students it is worth it ".
