New Permanent Symposium on the University

New Permanent Symposium on the University

The third edition of the Permanent Symposium on the University took place last 5 in April and the topics discussed were the models of Ecuadorian universities and the future of the students, addressed by professors Carlos Rojas and Diego Jaramillo.

Special attention was given to the different processes that exist in the university, such as the use of the syllabus, the way in which it is evaluated, class hours, virtual education, among others.

This event, dedicated to the entire university community, was addressed in this edition to the faculty of the Faculty of Design, Architecture and Art.

For Rojas, the objective of the Permanent Symposium is to develop a critical reflection on the Ecuadorian university and to think collectively about where we are going, without distinguishing a career, faculty or university.

For Diego Jaramillo, the aim is "to be a guide for the operational processes of the university, for the definition of educational models, of normativities and a reflection that can shed light on the daily life of the institution".

With respect to the university models, it was concluded that they have become hybrids and have been affected by the bureaucratic: "The classroom is a dark box because we live by procedures," said Rojas.

Both speakers agreed that the bureaucratic walls should be torn down by each member of the educational community with the question: What can I do to stop the bureaucratic machine?

And, in addition, exercise autonomy as an institution and thus propose changes in the administrative life of universities.
