Discussion on the electrification of transport

The April 2 in the Auditorium of the Faculty of Philosophy was developed a discussion on the electrification of transport, within the framework of the Master of Research in Socio-Environmental Studies, mention in Climate Change, which takes place in the University together with ERGON ( Center for Research and Development in Automotive Engineering of the UDA).

"We want to propose national policies through the master's degree of our titling work, which are aimed at the disincentive of current technology, that is, stop using internal combustion engines and rather generate a policy for vehicular traffic", said Mateo Coello, student of this master's degree and Coordinator of the career in Automotive Mechanical Engineering.

For Coello, it is important to identify the peak hours in the city and the concentration of vehicles to analyze the mechanisms that lower this level of vehicular circulation so that finally active mobility issues such as bicycle, pedestrian streets, massive use of public transport and decrease the conditions of poor air quality and climate change.

During the event, they talked about the work that is being carried out with ERGON and how to change the source of propulsion to electric motors, because finally the electric motors in use phase do not have emissions.

Carlos Larrea, Director of the Master's Degree in Socio-environmental Studies of the Universidad Andina Simón Bolívar in Quito, and Jaime Vélez, representative of the Secretary of the Presidency, were present at the conversation.

"What worries us is that when you ask the university students how they would like to move, the first option is a private vehicle. Faced with this situation, the car sharing program can be proposed, public bicycles, a bus line can be created exclusively for students, but if there is no cultural change of environmental awareness and active mobility, nothing can be done ", concluded Coello.
