Presentation of the electric prototype that will participate in the Shell Eco Marathon of the Americas 2019.

The 22 of March was presented the car that will participate in the Shell Eco Marathon of the Americas 2019, competition that will be carried out from the 3 to the 6 of April of the 2019 in Sonoma-California.

The Shell Eco-Marathon is considered the most important competition in the world in energy efficiency and brings together universities around the world

The UDA E-Team has represented the University of Azuay and Ecuador twice in this international competition, with a design and construction of a prototype of energy efficiency.

In 2016 was the first time that an Ecuadorian team participated in the competition and won the prize for "Effort and Perseverance" corresponding to the highest economic award given by the competition- in the 2018 the 14 number was obtained worldwide.

The goal is to achieve a vehicle that travels the most kilometers in the shortest time and with the lowest possible fuel consumption. This type of technology is shown as an alternative to environmental problems caused by combustion.

The car has been worked in different subjects of the Automotive Engineering career; in Computer Aided Design with Robert Rockwood, in Automobile Dynamics with Daniel Cordero, in Electronics with Gabriel Delgado, in Technology with Andrés López, and in the subjects of Automobile Electricity and Engine Preparation with Francisco Torres.

In the presentation event Andrés López, Dean of the Faculty of Science and Technology, said: "For us as a University and as a School of Automotive Engineering it is a pride to be able to affirm that we are in the same conditions and qualified to compete with the best universities of the world".

“We expect this energy efficient prototype to have an approximate performance of about 700km at 800km per gallon. A normal car travels approximately 50km per gallon, "he added.

The event also involved Francisco Torres, who gave technical details of the car, and recognized the teachers who have participated in its construction and improvement since the 2014 when it began its construction.

The students Mateo Chalco, President of the UDA E-Team, and Josselin García, student representative of the Faculty, addressed the audience to thank the sponsors and the University for their support.

The Automotive Engineering students that make up the UDA E-Team: Mateo Chalco, Nixon Armijos, Diego Iglesias, José Fernando Ortiz, Christian Juárez, Goberth Aguilar, Pedro Mendoza, Bladymir Alejandro, Eddison Romero, Germán Cuesta, José Tobar, Joselin García, Esteban Carpio, Karina Calle and Bernardo García.
