Research on the influence of the city on the flow of pedestrians

On January 8, the article "Analysis of the influence of urban built environment on pedestrian flow in an intermediate-sized city in the Andes of Ecuador" was published in the "Q1 Magazine: International Journal of Sustainable Transportation". in the flow of pedestrians, in an intermediate city in the Ecuadorian Andes).

This article is the product of the project "Study of the mobility patterns of cyclists and pedestrians for sustainable mobility in Cuenca-Ecuador" carried out jointly with the Cuenca University.

The authors are Carla Hermida and Manuela Cordero - teachers of the Faculty of Design, Architecture and Art of the University of Azuay - and Daniel Orellana, professor of the State University and member of the Interdisciplinary Department of Space and Population and the LlactaLab Sustainable Cities Laboratory.

"The main objective of the research was to build a multidisciplinary analytical framework for research on non-motorized mobility to contribute to the knowledge and construction of public policies and sustainable mobility strategies," explained Manuela Cordero, adding that the project addressed three axes: a ) methodological, b) behavioral and c) perceptual.

The article constitutes the description of one of the experiments carried out within the second axis, the behavioral one, and sought to answer the question about the relationship between pedestrian flow and the morphological, topological, structural and environmental characteristics of the urban environment.
