Wood catalog of Ecuador

Wood catalog of Ecuador

The 30 of October, in the House of Service to the Society, gave the launching of the catalog "Structural Maderas of Ecuador", of the architects Pedro Espinoza, Diego Proaño and Luis Barrera.

This academic publication aims to be the visible result of a research project that, in principle, was born in the university classrooms, but seeks to be an attractive and innovative format for dissemination to the general public.

The document identifies, classifies and establishes criteria for use for the most used structural type woods in the country. This recognition, no longer empirical, but technical and architectural, will allow a better applicability of wood and its processes.

Jacinto Guillén, Vice Chancellor for Research, with congratulatory words, welcomed the event. Subsequently, Sebastián Astudillo, a researcher at the University of Cuenca and a collaborator as an academic couple, commented that the important thing about an investigation is the set of personal attitudes because, it is not just about gathering a solvent technical team, originality is also required, innovation and creativity.

"The book launched today by the UDA manages to amalgamate two fundamental axes: the theory, based on a thorough scientific investigation, and the collection of data and prior knowledge, and the practice, based on tests with the material; an easy-to-consult, highly advisable technical manual for those who see wood as a structural component capable of solving architectural problems, while at the same time providing warmth and quality to the spaces of the human habitat, "concluded Guillén.

Sebastian Egas was in charge of the launch of the catalog. After Diego Proaño, researcher of the Project, gave certificates to architects and students who were part of the initiative as research assistants and interns, in the same way, the delivery of special boxes was made by the members of the research team.

The signing of the agreement between the UDA and the Municipal Public Enterprise of Economic Development of Cuenca, EDEC EP, was also signed. The agreement aims to encourage inter-institutional cooperation in order to achieve research and innovation in wood products through the INNOVACENTRO DE LA MADERA Y EL MUEBLE.

They also committed to the Minga LAB 2019 event, which seeks to encourage research on sustainable housing.
