XVI edition of the Cuenca School Festival is Young

From the 11 to the 15 in June was held the 16th edition of the National School Festival of Performing Arts Cuenca is Young in the Auditorium General of the University of Azuay, which had the participation of 18 institutions from the province of Azuay, Cañar and Imbabura

In addition, scenic proposals of students of the sixth cycle of the Theater Arts School of the UDA were presented.

During the four days of the festival, 21 presented scenic performances, including contemporary dance, traditional dance and theater.

The jury was made up of Juana Estrella, Francisco Aguirre, Milena Montenegro and Mauro Suárez, who chose the winners.

In the category of best director, best play and best actor triumphed La Asunción Educational Unit; the categories of best traditional dance and best actress were for the Educational Unit Ciudad de Cuenca; La Providencia Educational Unit won the best contemporary dance, the Corazón de María Educational Unit celebrated with the best choreography, among others of the winners.

The collegiate festival is an artistic project that emerged at the initiative of Jaime Garrido, Fabiola León and Carlos Loja. At the beginning it was carried out at the University of Cuenca, but it is currently in charge of the Culture Unit of the UDA.

This space has served as an opportunity to show his talent for several young people who have decided to dedicate themselves to this profession, such as René Zavala, Diego Ortega and Emilia Acurio.

"The School Festival of Performing Arts has become a window of the performing arts for the city," concluded Anna Tripaldi, Coordinator of the Culture Unit.
