Public and artistic intervention "Urban Fabrics"

On Thursday 23 in May, at the 19: 00, on the Juana de Oro bridge and stairs, the intervention of the public space "Urban Fabrics" was inaugurated by the School of Textile and Fashion Design in the framework of the celebration of the meeting "Urban Senses".

The inauguration included the artistic intervention of the Theater Company of the University of Azuay.

What was done was to represent a metaphor with the technique of macramé, which is a French weave based on knots, which symbolize the students that are intertwined with the urban environment and how they appropriate spaces, to demonstrate that in the University There is a collective and multidisciplinary work.

The intervention was carried out on the bridge and in a tree of the Stairways with remnants of textile ribbons donated by the textile factory PASA, to give a new use to a remaining raw material that would end up in a landfill and thus give it a new sense based in environmental sustainability.

The objective of the project was for students to learn to interweave with the environment so that their knowledge does not just remain in the classrooms, but they go out and take ownership of the city so they can intervene and demonstrate to the public what is done in University.

Dressing public spaces is considered an analogy of human clothing, taking into account that the textile is like a second skin and the city like a second home.

Freddy Gálvez - Coordinator of the School of Design, Textile and Fashion - thanked the students and teachers who participated in the realization of the fabric on a large scale and the Municipality of Cuenca for allowing intervention in the space.
