Organizational Psychology celebrates its days

The first Academic Psychology Conference (JAPO) was held on May 17 and 18 in the auditorium of the University of Azuay. The conference was attended by professionals in the area of Social Psychology, Organizational, experts in Human and Labor Talent, as well as students of the career of Organizational Psychology.

The objective of the event was to conduct an academic meeting between professionals and students of Organizational Psychology and adjunct disciplines, to generate an exchange of knowledge, research and experiences on topics of interest to the discipline.

Francisco Salgado, Rector of the University of Azuay, opened the event welcoming those present. He mentioned that we live in a world of organizations, where each individual belongs to one.

In addition, he criticized the term, human capital: "This expression reifies individuals, so we must rescue human value, and for that psychology is important, to innovate and understand the individual in organizations."

Mónica Rodas, Coordinator of the School of Organizational Psychology, referred to the event as an opportunity to understand the role of students and professionals linked to Organizational Psychology, since they are directly associated with human behavior.

The first paper, with the theme "Psychosocial and occupational risk", was given by the work psychologist Ximena Ramírez, who referred to how the term work, has evolved from the emergence of workers' unions, to the current state legislation.

Well, before the work was defined as a form of punishment, or as a situation for the human being to suffer to repair the original sin; currently the International Labor Organization (ILO) defines it as: "A set of human activities, paid or unpaid, that produce goods or services in an economy, or that meet the needs of a community or provide the means of livelihood necessary for individuals . "

So the evolution of the definition of work has led to a better involvement of the human being itself.

Likewise, the importance of the risks that arise in companies or organizations was discussed; Problems such as: monotony, conflict of roles, competition, even poor design of the workplace, lead to the creation of conflicts in society.

Ximena Ramírez also mentioned her opinion about the event: "These exchange spaces are necessary for the research and understanding of Organizational Psychology".

Then the social psychologist Paz Garderas made a mention to women and their role in labor organizations, in reference to the labor gap between men and women. Also, and in terms of gender, said that there is still the so-called horizontal segregation, which refers to how certain jobs are still anchored to gender.

The talks during the two days of the conference addressed various topics such as human behavior in organizations of the XXI century, facilitating factors and barrier to associativity, the evaluation of personality applied to the workplace and the validation of the smart pen as technological support for the self-control competition.

After the talks, research workshops were held with the students.

The students of the career of Organizational Psychology mentioned that the sessions were an opportunity to have a talk with professionals of psychology, because it will serve them substantially when they leave the classroom.
