Project of automatic homologation of materials wins as best paper

In March the "XV International Information Congress, INFO 2018" was held in Havana, Cuba, organized by the University of Computer Sciences, where the University of Azuay, the University of Cuenca and the Private Technical University of Loja (UTPL) ) presented a scientific article that was selected as the best paper for the utility that can be given at the international level.

Marcos Orellana, Coordinator of the School of Systems Engineering of the UDA, works together with Gerardo Orellana, also from our University; Victor Saquicela, Fernando Baculima and Mauricio Espinoza, from the University of Cuenca; and Nelson Piedra, of the UTPL, for the creation of the project "Detection of similarities between academic content of career through the application of semantic technologies and data mining".

The project was generated from the University of Cuenca, with the name of "CEPRA" and the support of CEDIA, a research organization that grants funds to participating institutions.

In the 2011 the Council of Higher Education (CES) made a "nomenclature of degrees" to homogenize the qualifications of all universities in Ecuador. If someone from one university wants to study in another, they must make a homologation of subjects, but the process is complex, delayed and manual.

The idea of the project is to find similarities in two different syllables to try to automatically homologate them and thus avoid the inconveniences of the paperwork of said management; Although the project ends approximately in September, it has already been possible to develop a large part of what was proposed at the beginning, such as the identification of equal contents between two careers.

"The project will be applied first in the Systems career, with the validation of subjects among the three participating universities, it is expected that afterwards it will be extended to more faculties to finally reach the national level, our intention is that the product is in CEDIA, to that universities are not islands, but that there is an exchange between students so that they can move freely between institutions, "said Marcos Orellana.
