"Anger in times of love", a work that reflects on gender problems

In the work of clown entitled "Cholera in times of love", interpreted the April 16 by the Theater Company of the University of Azuay for students of the first cycles of the Faculty of Philosophy, exposed the difficulties that women and men Basins have to face a society where gender stereotypes are still present.

"What was tried is not to focus only on women but rather on all human beings and to show us how men can also be attacked, criticized," explained Lucía Cordero, professor of Psychology at the University, adding: "We can not think only from women, it is impossible to think that we can only defend half of the population."

The work, which took place in the Auditorium, was divided into three parts and each one addressed different themes: the stigmas of singleness were treated in "The sad and poor spinster (the queen of the perch)", the stereotype of strong and dominant men in "The Men's Club Camacho" and the problems that bring jealousy in "He, she and the cousin".

"I liked the play and it made me laugh because that's what happens. For example, the hanger, everyone always says: I'm alone, we are hangers. There are people who really worry too much, have low self-esteem and as they say in the work, they want a superhero to save them, "said María Mercedes Pérez, a student of Clinical Psychology.

The actor and dramatist Carlos Gallegos directed the work. The actors belong to the School of Theater and they are José Coronel, Hilda Valdez, María Elvira Villacís and Juan Carlos Abril.

"The best thing about working with them is that I know their acting style and their way of working. I must also say that Jaime Garrido (Coordinator of the School of Theater Arts) is a very responsible person and that he has my absolute confidence when deciding to be part of any of his projects. It is one of the main reasons why I like to work in the UDA, "said Gallegos.

After the work, a forum was held where the gender problems that were discussed were analyzed. The participants were: Mateo Vélez, student of Clinical Psychology; Juan Marcelo Vintimilla, student of Organizational Psychology; Carmen Vélez, student of Educational Psychology; Constanza Figueroa, Social Communication student; Juana Ruiz, Tourism; and Mayra Maji and Regina Hurtado, students of Special Education.
