Swimming Team of the UDA returns to celebrate

They are friends who share a common passion and the effort, support and union have made them go far.

And those friends who make up the Swimming Team of the University of Azuay have re-consecrated champions of the National Inter-University Games.

The tournament was held on December 1, 2 and 3, 2017 in the city of Loja and UDA students scored more than 20 points apart from the University of Cuenca, which came in second place. The third was the team from the Universidad San Francisco de Quito.

To go to the competition they had the support of Francisco Salgado, Rector of the University of Azuay, who helped them with the extra expenses they had during the tournament.

Second success

The Swimming Club of the Universidad del Azuay was created three years ago on the initiative of Daniel Arévalo, former president of the UDA Student Sports Association (ADEUDA), and since then he has started this project that has given great success to the University.

The club is made up of more than 20 students who train together to represent us in tournaments of great importance at the national level.

The members of the swimming team do not have a coach, but they have the support of the Iván Enderica Ochoa Swimming School, where they can use the facilities and give them flexibility of time to go to train.

Iván Enderica, student of the UDA and professional swimmer, is the one that gives guidelines, techniques and training plans to the athletes.

"I have represented Azuay and Ecuador in various international events, it is really always an honor to represent the university because it is the place where we prepare to be professionals," said Iván Enderica.

The team has been few years since its creation, but it already has two very important triumphs, the recent achievement in Loja and another in Riobamba in the 2015 year, (the first time they participated in the National Interuniversity Games).

For Ivan that first experience was incredible because he could find guys who had never participated in a tournament and encouraged them to compete for the first time in an interuniversity championship.

Pizza ritual

The swimming team of the UDA in the two competitions in which they have participated, they have won, this demonstrates the great potential that the athletes of the UDA have.

What motivates them in each competition is their great friendship and the pride of representing our University and leaving their name high.

The team has made it a habit to go to eat pizza after some competition, it's like their reward for all the effort they have given in this.
