Since the 6 in November, Cuenca has become a stage for verses and lyrics thanks to the presence of national and international poets who have toured various stages of the city in the development of the International Lira 2017 Festival.

Within the program of this festival on 8 and 9 days in November, events were held in which the students of the School of Textile and Fashion Design of the University participated.

The first event took place on November 8 at the Central School in the second recital open to the public, which aimed to socialize the poetry and had the presence of national and international poets Juan Carlos Astudillo of Ecuador, Josu Landa de Venezuela, María Auxiliadora Balladares from Ecuador, Rocío Silva Santisteban from Peru and Catalinas Sojos from Ecuador.

The recital also had the collaboration of the four universities of the city that joined the Lira Festival to relive through different actions and skills the traditions and customs of the last 100 years.

The University of Azuay participated in the festival through the students of the School of Textile and Fashion Design directed by Silvia Zeas and Claudia Polo, who together with their students prepared a staging of costumes that evoked past fashions, so that, inspired in these times, they can create a new design proposal to reconceptualize the traditional clothing of the period materialized in contemporary fashion.

Each student belonging to the seventh cycle of the race was in charge of the elaboration of a recontextualization suit from different periods started by the 50's years until the 90's.

The main objective of the students was to show the citizens what the costumes were like in those times and how they are becoming contemporary.

Adrián Guzmán, student of the Textile and Fashion Design career, commented that it was a challenge to show his work in front of the citizens in the Central School, since the costumes had to be in perfect conditions and without any error:

"It was a challenge, but it is something that we are passionate about, so we put a lot of love into it" concluded Adrián.

Similarly, on November 9 students were present at the closing ceremony of the Lira Festival in San Joaquin Gardens, where they exhibited their costumes to all the guests of the event, who were able to appreciate their creations and relive the nostalgia of the last 100 years of tradition and culture of the city.
