Agreement with the canton Biblián to improve the quality of milk production

The 11 of October the University of Azuay signed an agreement with the Autonomous Municipal Decentralized Government of Biblián with the objective of improving the quality of the milk of the small and medium producers of the canton.

The cattle ranch is the economic activity that predominates in Biblián since near the 80% of the territory it is dedicated to the production of milk, but in the last times the work of the graziers has been affected by distinct problems in the stages of production and storing of milk.

"If we do not have a quality product we can not do anything in the market, if we have quality, we can fight shoulder to shoulder with the competition because the quality of our product is optimal, that's why this agreement points to those goals, which buy the milk and pay for quality, "said Guillermo Espinoza, Mayor of GAD Municipal de Biblián

The project includes diagnostic programs, implementation and evaluation of livestock herds; good milking practices; quality management of milk on farm; transport and collection of the same, and is based on joint work with small and medium-sized cattle producers, transporters and milk collectors.

There will also be several theoretical - practical workshops, field visits and technical advice for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of diseases, sampling and analysis of the quality of the milk in the farm, transport and storage.

The objectives of the agreement will be met with the intervention of professors and students of the Faculty of Food Engineering, which will guide small and medium producers in the canton to improve the processes necessary to have a good quality in the milk they will sell.
