The video game industry has maintained a sustained growth in recent years, which has made it an attractive market for professionals. The popularization of mobile devices, as well as the ease of publishing content through different platforms (Google Play, Steam, etc.) has allowed independent developers to create and disseminate their products on a global scale, without the need for significant resources. financial resources or the support of a company.

The above, coupled with the wide use of video games in various areas such as education or entertainment, supports the need to develop learning programs in this area, which should be aimed at both professionals and the general public.



  • Train attendees about the basics of video game design and programming


  • Know the history of the video game industry and the main existing genres
  • Train participants, at an initial level in the tools used for video game design
  • Create technical scripts
  • Design videogames using a language of priorities.
  • Basic videogame programming using the Construct 2 engine.
  • Communicate alternatives for the publication of programs and possible sources of financing.


The instructor, through workshops, will promote the participation of attendees fostering a collaborative learning that allows acquiring and deepening knowledge about the subject matter exposed.

The student must carry out an autonomous work in which he puts into practice the topics exposed in the developed practices.

  • History of existing videogames and genres.

Introduction to the course, history of videogames and their contribution to the different areas of human activity (industry, entertainment, education, labor market). Review of currently available genres and analysis of the genre of platforms.

  • Design Tools

Familiarization with used design and programming tools, including Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Premiere, Piskel and Construct 2.

  • Logic and priorities in videogames

Introduction to programming using a language of priorities. Guidelines on the design of levels and control of the characters.

  • Creating a story and characters

Construction of the story: plot, protagonists, villains, missions, objectives, items, power ups, etc.

  • Video game design

Design of levels based on platform games.

  • Programming in Construct 2

Construction of the game on the Construct 2 engine, using a visual language based on priorities.

  • Publication and funding sources

Information about the publication of videogames in different available platforms (Android, iOS, PC or Steam) as well as financing alternatives to build projects such as Kickstarter or Indiegogo.


  • Professionals, teachers, students and the general public with basic programming knowledge.


To the participants who pass the course, the Universidad del Azuay will issue a certificate of approval for 30 hours.
